What is Spiritual Direction?
Who or what is God to you? How is God present in your life? Some experience God as simply the Holy One or the Way. Others think of God as the Ground of all Being or the Ultimate Mystery.
Spiritual direction is a companionable relationship in which one person assists another or others to heighten awareness of how God – however you understand God – is working in your life. The spiritual director helps those she accompanies to look at life experiences through a loving, respectful, and compassionate lens. This way of seeing allows for the possibility of understanding how God was and is present in those experiences. A relationship with a spiritual director also supports growth, freedom, and commitment to act on spiritual insights.
The spiritual director and directee meet once to determine compatibility. If there’s a “match,” one to one appointments are scheduled about 2 weeks apart for the first 3 sessions. After that, sessions are scheduled a month apart.
